Is there anyone out there ? (part 10)
Is there someone else out there?
What goes up, must come down. An action has an equal and opposite reaction. Where there is no light there is darkness. And, finally, where there is good, evil lurks - which is the theme of this section.
If you're willing to consider the possibility of God, the provider of all that is good, then how about the possibility of the Devil, or Satan, or Lucifer, or The Evil One, the originator of all things evil.
I remember, in my youth, the fuss and bother made about the film, The Exorcist. It was a horror film dealing with the Devil and the possession of a young girl (she of the revolving head). To this day, although other films of the most gruesome nature are freely available, this film has been refused a certificate by the censors. This film was truly evil and even the censors realised that fact.
Evil exists, it is real. People, particularly in other cultures, do die of curses. Ritual (satanic) abuse is a reality, despite what the mass media says. There is evil, and there is a Devil, the cause of it. And I'll tell you something else. I have worked with computers for 15 years and have never ever suffered a power surge, causing my computer to lose its data. Five minutes ago, just after I finished this section (I am writing this observation afterwards), I experienced my first ever power surge with the resultant data loss! Call it co-incidence, if you like. I don't.
From the Bible we get something of an identi-kit picture of the Devil. He is powerful, but not all-powerful. He is controlling, but not all-controlling. He, like us, was created by God and is no match for his creator. The fight between good and evil is not an equal fight, It's a man against boy situation. No contest.
He also has helpers, a gang of twisted angels, as well as misguided souls such as Hitler and Stalin, who represented him adequately during their lifetime. In the book of the TV mini-series, The Holocaust, the author puts these words in the mouth of a fictitious Holocaust survivor : "I never really believed in Satan, or that there was pure evil in the world until I came here."
A famous quote says of the devil that there are two equally wrong views you can take, you can either totally ignore him or you can pay too much attention to him. The devil is quite happy for you to take either position. What position will you take? He comes as part of the package, I'm afraid: God, The Bible .... and the Devil.
