Is it important to know about the origins of the Gospel? Why should it matter?

having confidence in what we read in Scripture

I do think it is most important to know the origins of what we read in scripture, especially in an age so tainted by Biblical criticism, which has undermined the integrity of the Bible in the eyes of all too many people.

Ignorance is a terrible thing and we surely must be ready to "give an account of the hope that is in us"; to do this we must surely understand what we are reading and why it so often does not make sense to many believers and unbelievers alike.

I was brought up to read my Bible and enjoy the wonder of the Truths it contains. As a teenager I was privileged to have an excellent Bible teacher and learned to dig deeper. When I eventually touched the Jewish roots of our faith and came under the teaching of people like Dwight Prior and Lance Lambert etc it was if a whole new dimension of understanding had opened up and many truths I had found hard made more sense as I began to explore the Jewish origins of my very protestant grasp of scripture.

It matters if you want to know more, have a clearer picture of Yeshua and His teaching, gain understanding and grow deeper in faith!

Is it important to know about the origin of the Gospels?

In my opinion, not only is it important to know the origin of the Gospel, but as someone once challenged me, take a lexicon and all the words you can think of associated with the word Gospel, and come up with a working definition for yourself.
This person claimed it would be something the Spirit of God would work with me on, it would be something etched in my mind that no one could take away, and it would be something that I was not fed by someone else save the Spirit of God. This person was right on all 3 counts and it took a full afternoon to accomplish. I think defining Gospel comes before origins. In doing this exercise, there were a couple verses that seemed to speak directly to me! I will not share those, or I would be feeding you.
