Issue #18

Shalom,

Two big announcements:

Firstly, regarding the proposed Weekly Bible Study on "The Life of Yeshua". I was interested to see what sort of response I would get from folk and had a figure in mind that would tell me that it was worth doing, bearing in mind the amount of work needed to run it. I have to say that I'm a little disappointed to have received just 50% of that figure, but more worryingly, over 90% of those people were female - where on earth are the men - we need more men, are you out there?

To wet your appetite, here's what's being proposed:

* A three year project on the Life of Jesus from a Hebraic perspective, covering the complete Gospel record chronologically.
* every week a new section will be posted, with unique commentary and some proposed questions.
* there will be a closed forum for folk to discuss the material and ask (and answer questions)
* all lessons will be stored so that folk will be able to start at any time and go at their own pace.
* lessons will be printable, so you could use them in your home groups etc

So, are you on board or not? Please let me know at steve@saltshakers.com (apart from those wonderful folk who have already got in touch).

Secondly, we've just launched our third batch of answers to tricky questions from our marvellous "messianic rabbis". So, go to www.hebrewroots.com for the answers to the following:

1. Who was Melchizedek? 2. When was communion introduced and what were the disciples doing when they met daily and broke bread together? 3. Is it possible to know who now carries Israelite ancestry? Following on from that thought is the question of whether it matters? 4. What are your views on Kaballah? Is the God of Scripture also the god of the Kaballah? How should messianic believers view it? 5. What do you see as the major differences in teaching between Messianic
teachers versus popular Evangelical teachers like Chuck Swindoll, Woodrow Kroll, John McArthur, or other acclaimed respected teachers? 6. Can man change Gods mind? As in the conversation between Moses and GOD on Mt. Sinai after the golden calf incident. 7. Why would God want to kill Moses when He told Moses to go to Egypt? (Exodus 4:24 And it came to pass on the way to the encampment, that the Lord met him and sought to kill him.) 8. At a Church I heard several people give testimony of speaking to a Prophet who spoke into their lives. Are there still prophets in our time as I was taught that prophets only existed during the times of the first apostles. 9. My question is regarding the blue threads in the tzitzit. I was told that because the blue dye came from snails, people should not wear the tzitzit as snails are an abomination. What do the rabbis think? 10. What are the correct Hebrew names for Jesus and God?

What a set of humdingers! And each of these has been answered in up to 6 different ways!!

Do you have a burning question to ask our "rabbis"? If so send it to me as soon as possible, to steve@saltshakers.com

Keep visiting us (daily if you can - I try to add something new every day) at www.hebrewroots.com and please comment on our blogs and features - feedback is what keeps us going, otherwise we're not sure who we are reaching and whether we're doing things right.
