The Olive Tree
Symbols described in the Bible describe characteristics of the olive tree to tell us more about God, Israel and our relationship to both.
Olive trees, their fruit and oil have played an important role in the history of Israel. It has been used for healing, a staple food, and for light. It was used in the temples in Israel. It was considered a blessing in life (Psalm 52:8).
The olive tree is remarkable. It has the ability to survive in all conditions (hot, dry, cold, wet, rocky, sandy) and yet produce fruit. Even when cut down or burned, new shoots will emerge from its roots.
In Romans 11 Paul referred to the olive tree as relating to Jews and Gentiles in their relationship to Israel. We are united in one olive tree with its richness to embrace us with all its outreaching branches.

Rosh HaShanah 20109
Shalom mishposhah,
We are approaching the Jewish New Year in September. It is a time to celebrate, and a time to look toward the future of Israel and our lives as individuals in this world. We may find ourselves wrapped up in our personal lives and what that entails on a day to day basis. Yet, we are part of a greater reality that we may be able to compehend with our minds. We were wonderfully created to make a difference in this world. For others. Recently, Poland commemorated the German invasion. It was not only a milestone for the Polish, but also a milestone for the Jews in Poland. Jews suffered their deaths in the Warzaw getto.
Does history repeat itself? I have lived long enough to see that happen. So what is this generation to do in terms of taking a stance for mankind? My concern is for not only the Jews in Europe worldwide, but for other ethnic groups.
History has shown that given the recipe of certain economic conditions, coupled with social condition, the political climate can thrive.
Studying European history of the 20th century, I have learned that what may seem to be a stable and reliable trend in the economics and politcs of a nation may not lead to a desirable and final outcome of the people of those nations.
I would appreciate your viewpoints in this regard.
With all that said, I want to encourage you to stand by Israel, regardless of political or religious debate. All can, and shift, around you regarding the way the world is going. Yet, the LORD promised by His Word that He will stand by Israel unconditionally, no matter what, until the end of the age, and beyond.
Will you?
Shalom in Yeshua's love,
Siv (Sarah) Idestrom
