Morry, caterer supreme

In the cascading fortunes that life throws at one over the year, this Seder night was most definitely one of the peaks for Morry. Other peaks would be Purim (Hamantaschen), Chanukah (doughnuts and potato latkes) and Yom Kippur (the feast after the fast). Perhaps you've guessed the common denominator ..... food. Food, the creating and the consuming of, was, and still is, one of his favourite pastimes. And , boy, did he fully explore all aspects of his calling! Morry the cook, Morry the washer-upper, Morry the drying-upper, Morry the clear-the-plates-away- while-the-others-are-still-eating, Morry the fuss-pot etc etc.

Enough said, I think. A caricature would show his proud nose and curiously obvious gingerish hairpiece as distinctive physical features, but would also include a 'pinny' and kitchen gloves as necessary adornments. In contrast to the peaks, troughs for Morry would be paying for things. It was just as well that he had to pay a month in advance for his yearly family outing to Warner's holiday camp, it took a full month for him to get over it and be in the right state of mind to enjoy the holiday! Being retired he'd now escaped from the clutches of the taxman but, in those days you could almost feel the grey mist of doom and gloom that descended upon him on that yearly visit to Goldstein the accountant. That was the one day in that the year that Morry became Sorry and the dishes went unwashed.
